i'm with the band

The Turn in NYC (rehearsal & shoot)

I was invited along with my favorite band to capture them during rehearsal for the BIG show and to get some cityscape shots of them as well.

So I got to spend the majority of my day last Monday with the band, which is always fun. And got to listen to them practice for the show (you HAVE to come…it’s going to be incredible!!!). We’ve worked up some new 5×7 cards for them recently to promote the show:

Listening to them play and hearing how the show will come together is so awesome and interesting. Like the studio, it’s so fun being on the ‘inside’. However, I now always have my earplugs in my camera bag- it gets SO loud in that little room! I can still totally hear what they are playing and saying, but I can still leave without leaving my eardrums behind. Yes, I know. I am Old.

I also got to meet the drummer and bass player who will be playing with Brian and Pat in the BIG show who were very nice and very talented.  I don’t think they knew quite what to make of me.

You know how I love my screaming shots of Brian.

I almost forgot how different it is photographing them when they are not acoustic. There’s much more movement and no sitting.

Did some shots on an NYC rooftop. Let me preface this part by saying that the wind was whipping (so much so that it kept knocking my flash over while mounted on the camera in the vertical position) and it was freakin freezing outside. A few times, I thought we were all going right over the side of the 37th floor!! It was way too cold and windy to stay out too long so we only shot a few.

Then got some inside. I’d like to think that it is me that is really funny and the reason for the laughing in the pictures, but actually Brian seems to crack both himself and Pat up during our shoots. Whatever works! Jeez, handsome much boys?

I know I say it in every post about The Turn, but I am so, so proud of them and the progress they are making. They are such good people and I adore being their friend/groupie/photographer!
