    max @ temple {post-zoom bar mitzvah portraits}

    Is a post-zoom bar mitzvah photoshoot actually a thing? It is now. Just a few shots of Max at temple now that we were allowed back in for a few minutes. Max was supposed to have his whole Bar Mitzvah during the worst of the pandemic (the temple, the party) so you know that didn’t happen. But after studying for a year plus for his torah reading, etc he went ahead with a zoom bar mitzvah from home. We were allowed quickly into temple to get a few pictures there before the rabbi retires this month and the party is rescheduled to next year. So look for more of Max in the future. But like with everything else lately, we did the best with the situation at hand. Oy vey.

    benjamin’s bar mitzvah

    Finally able to post a session (since they’re mostly all for the holidays, they have to stay secret until afterwards) and happy to share Benjamin’s Bar Mitzvah with you! A handsome, kind young man and his lovely family are all new to bsquared but his mom and I especially hit it off right away! I was there to photograph his intimate party for just a few hours. He had a family trip to Israel earlier in the year to celebrate his bar mitzvah, so the party was kept small and just for close family and friends. The party was held at one of my favorite venues to photograph, there was a toasty fireplace (which I just wanted to climb into!) and amazing sushi. So I had a great time and it seemed like everyone else there did too. It was so nice meeting and working with this family- I hope I have to chance to again sometime.

    erin’s bat mitzvah

    I shot this lovely young lady’s bat mitzvah service and luncheon recently and am happy to share them today. I photographed her brother’s bar mitzvah at the same temple 2 years ago- he was the first bar mitzvah they ever had in this new temple so the tradition continues. She did such an excellent job on her torah reading and all throughout her service. For whatever reason, this family loves my car (they have good taste) so we had to incorporate it into at least one shot.

    noah’s bar mitzvah

    Its like the bsquared bar/bat mitzvah central over here lately. I photographed Noah’s sister’s bat mitzvah a few years ago and I was so happy to be asked back for Noah’s special day. I did a little ninja photographer action and snuck in one or two shots at the end of the service thru the closed doors of the sanctuary. We snuck outside for a few quick shots and then it was off to the party downstairs. I love this family’s tradition of having everyone who is asked to light a candle must speak about the bar mitzvah boy (not just have the bar mitzvah boy say some things about them). It was a great morning/afternoon. Congrats, Noah!

    cayla’s bat mitzvah- the party

    The 3rd and final installment of Cayla’s special day (you can find the temple and the portraits on the blog, just click the links). Cayla’s a disney girl (a girl after my own heart) and there were sprinklings of Mickey heads throughout, like hidden Mickeys at DisneyWorld. A great time was had by all with the candlelighting, montage, plenty of dancing and good food and good friends and family most of all.
