FAQ’s

Why bsquared photography?

This is the hardest one to answer so I’ll just do it first and get it out of the way. Because I love photographing families (all kinds of families), events, milestones and the love between people. I like to think that shows in my images. My favorite compliment is when parents, brides, or  a blog stalker tells me that I really ‘got’ the subjects personality in the photos and they can see who they really are just from an image I made.

Because I work really, really hard to get the shot. Because I strive for the best images possible by understanding light, posing, interacting, using my equipment in manual mode for total control, and post processing- and never stop learning new things. Because I love having fun on my shoots and I want you to, also. Because I’m a crazy perfectionist. Because I’m a giant dorky goofball who doesn’t mind making crazy faces and weird sounds just to make someone laugh. Because I love the challenge of getting someone who is camera shy (adult or child) and making them forget they are in front of the camera and watching them come out of their shell. Because I hope that each client becomes a friend. Because I built this business from passion and a dream and it never ceases to amaze me that I’m doing what I love. And because I think it’s so important to document your life in pictures that can stand the test of time.

I really don’t want to be in the pictures, I’d like just my kids photographed. Is that okay?

I’m happy to honor your wishes. But I do suggest that you come with ‘hair and makeup’ anyway just in case I can convince you to just jump in a few pictures. As much as you want pictures of your children, someday when your children are grown ups (or still growing up) they’ll want to have pictures of YOU just as much. You can give them that gift right back by sitting with them for a few images.

You seem to book up really fast. When should we schedule our session?

I do often book up very quickly, especially in the more ‘popular’ months for photography-May thru November. Book your session as soon as the calendar opens to get the spot you want. If you have a specific date (for an event) that you’d like to book and it’s not yet on the calendar, please email me.

If you’d like to be notified of the calendar openings keep your eye on the blog, on my bsquared facebook page (you can find the link on the tab to the left) or sign up for the bsquared newsletter (also on the left of the blog).

What time of the day is best for photographs?

The light earlier in the day and later in the evening is generally the best, but we can make anytime work. If you have small children & babies, please keep their schedules for napping, eating, cranky times in mind when you are choosing your time. For beach sessions, I only photograph those in the very late afternoon/early evening otherwise the light is too harsh (lots of squinty eyes and harsh shadows).

I don’t know where to have our session. Any suggestions?

I have many tried and true locations, love finding new ones and also love sessions at home. Those tell a lot about a family and who they are. Whatever you choose, we’ll do our best to make it as “YOU” as possible and find something to fit into your ideas for a session.

What is the sitting fee/retainer?

For portrait sessions and party/event photography I no longer ask for a retainer.

Weddings (be married) & bar/bat mitzvah’s (be mitzvah’d) require a $500 retainer.

What happens if we have to reschedule or cancel? Do we lose our retainer/sitting fee?

The sitting fee is non-refundable but I will happily transfer it in full to your new date & time if we need to reschedule for any reason including weather.

Your schedule is very full. Do you have dates to reschedule to?

In the event that we do have to reschedule I do leave dates available to reschedule sessions to. We will work together to find a new date & time that works for both of us.

We’re going to be late for our scheduled session. What should we do?

Please call me as soon as you know you will be late. I will do everything I can to give you your allotted time for your session, but I cannot guarantee that I will be able to stay past the scheduled time. We will fit in as much as we can in the time remaining. In the event that you are more than 30 min late for your session (10 min for a mini session) your $225 sitting fee/retainer will be forfeited and your session will be cancelled. I understand unavoidable events occur and I will do my best to hold off on cancelling your session- but I have to be respectful of the families after you as well. If I am running late, I will give you a call on your cell phone number you have provided (please keep it on and handy) and I will still keep your entire session time.

Accidents/emergencies happen. What if Beth is sick or unable to come to our scheduled session or event?

Since I work alone, this is always a contingency I plan for. If for any reason I am unable to photograph your session we will either reschedule to another date/time or cancel. If we have to cancel due to something on my end, your session fee/retainer is fully refundable or it can be applied to a session in the future- the choice is yours. If it’s an event, I will do everything I can to provide a photographer to cover for me. I have a network of local, amazing photographers that cover for eachother under such circumstances. I will do my best to provide someone with a similar style and who has similar packages and pricing.

Will we hear from you before the session?

Yes! Maybe more than you’d like, even. I’ll be in touch via email a few days before our session to reconfirm and to make sure we’re good to go with the weather, location, etc. You can also contact me anytime via email or phone with any questions or concerns. Please always keep your cell phone ON and handy on the day of the session just in case I need to reach you!

When do we pay the balance?

All payments are due in full on the day of your session once we finish shooting. The wedding package, event/party package & bar/bat mitzvah package’s balances are also due in full the day of your event.

Why can’t you have our gallery ready immediately following the session?

Every single bsquared session is edited to ensure beautifully produced images that always look consistent with each other and the body of my work. Each session takes a minimum of 4 hours to edit. I will do the best I can to get your images perfected and ready for you to view as soon as possible following our session but I won’t be happy giving you anything less than the best I can offer.

What if we’d like to upgrade to a larger package?

If you know in advance that you’d like to upgrade to a larger package, that package amount is due on the day of your session. If you’d like to upgrade anytime after viewing your album but before placing your order, the difference is due upon ordering. (the package price less the base price paid at the conclusion of your session or event). You may upgrade at anytime before placing your order.

I saw this really cool shot on another photographers blog. Can you replicate that for me in our session?

I will do my best to fulfill all client requests, however I cannot guarantee any specific poses, props or scenery. If you have viewed my blog and you are familiar with my work before choosing me to photograph your family, I ask for your trust in my abilities to make your shoot perfect for YOUR family.

How long until I see my photos?

Your online gallery will be ready within 2-4 weeks of your session date. I will email you with a link to your private online album as soon as it’s ready to view.

How do I let you know what I’d like to order?

Simply send me an email with your choices of images, products and/or sizes. If you are ordering an album or chose a package that includes an album, we’ll work together on the layout/included images.

I’d love to display some of your images in my home, but I don’t know where to start. Can you help?

Absolutely!! I love decorating almost as much as I love photography. We can make an appointment for me to come to your home for a consultation and we can work together to figure out what images you’d like to display, how to display them and where.

What can I print from my included files? Where do I make enlargements?

If you’ve purchased a package with low resolution images, you are able to make copies & enlargements up to 5×7 on your own. Any prints 8×10 and above MUST be ordered thru bsquared photography. Because the images are low resolution, if you print above 5×7 they will look pixelated and be really poor quality. If you’ve purchased a high resolution gallery of images, you can make enlargements in any size you’d like.

I recommend printing thru Rockville Camera (www.rockvillecamera.com). You can even have them mail your prints if you live far from Rockville Centre.

Can I use your photos on Facebook as profile pictures or to show my friends?

Of course! The images in your completed gallery are all yours. If you mention that they were taken by bsquared photography, that would be wonderful! I also give a few teasers on Facebook on the day your photos get posted to the bsquared blog and tag you in those as well.

What types of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, personal checks, venmo, zelle or credit cards thru Paypal.
