    rockin. a lot.

So Jack and Patrick have been taking drum lessons for about 2+ years. Last August Grandma and Hakka got them a real (and very nice) drum set. So they finally moved on from the drum pad to the real thing. And you know what? They sound really, really great!! I really like listening to them play and practice (not that you can avoid it as they are pretty LOUD and if you are within 500 feet of the house, you can hear them whether you want to or not. Sorry neighbors!).

How well does that brick wall in the basement work? And no, I didn’t put it in just for the pictures.

I’m pushing for them to learn My Sharona- just a fantastic drum song! Now that I have that song stuck in your head, you know you want them to learn to play it too!

band business cards & bcause i said so shirts

Some more recent "shoots"- for some of my favorite business clients/friends.

My friends Denise and Lauren run their own kids clothing company, which you can visit at www.bcauseisaidso.com. They have great and adorable stuff. Here's their newest addition…loved.

And I made some fun business cards for "my" band, The Turn. After we discussed the fact that they had pictures on their site that I did not take and they told me that the woman who took them "meant nothing to us" and that they "were thinking about me the whole time" we made up and I made them some cool cards.

A friend asked if I'm a groupie. And I decided that since I'm a paid photographer for the band (gotta get that exclusive contract worked out before they hit it big!) that I technically cannot be a groupie. I just watch them play when I'm not working for them for work purposes…ya know, to see the best angles, where in the song the best picture would be…RESEARCH! Yeah, that's it. Research!! They are awesome and I'm glad we are friends!

The Turn in the recording studio

    Img_5566b

It’s back to work (well, they never really stopped working) for my favorite band. They went back to General Studios to work on their new album and I went along to snap a few pictures of the process. Had a great time hanging out and watching (uh, listening really) the whole thing start to come together. It’s really so cool to see/hear. The new songs are all so amazing, I’m having a hard time choosing a favorite! Spent a lot of the evening with George (pictured above) who is the owner/engineer of General Studios and a great guy, as well as Brian’s brother Eric. We had some nice conversations while the guys did several takes to get it just right.

Brian and Pat brought in some studio musicians to help round out their songs. Both gentlemen are members of Cindy Lauper’s band and were on a brief break from touring the world. They were incredible musicians and really made the songs rock.

They are working SO very hard and sounding so very amazing. I can’t wait til they make it huge!

Last week The Turn (aka Brian and Pat) were asked to go back to WMJC radio station to play some of their new songs for the radio execs and do some promo/music recording for their shows. Of course I tagged along to document the day (*just to clarify that I am not a total groupie (which I kinda am), I was hired to come along and take pictures. Like for work. Really!) While the recording portion of the day didn’t work out as planned as the facilities weren’t available, the intimate concert for the execs worked out great. Brian and Pat played a bunch of their new songs (which TOTALLY ROCK by the way) and all the "audience" were pretty much rivited. The new material is just so great- and I can’t wait to hear it again. I think they made a really great impression, which can only help in their progress.

And I have to add that Pat sang some on a few of the new songs and it was SO GREAT!!! I’ve only heard his voice in snippets here and there as backup but in a few of the new ones, he sings solo (not the whole song, but parts) and is just awesome! They sound so good together. It still amazes me everytime I hear them play- that they write all their own music & lyrics, play so well, and sing so incredibly. It’s a ridiculous amount of talent between them. Can’t wait to be photographing them on the big stages! Someday soon.

In 2009 as part of my restructuring, I will be offering storyboards as part of packages and also as ala carte items. I made the boys one each for their birthdays, and so I could show them as samples. The storyboards for the Turn measure something like 20×40" and have 10 pictures on each. They came out so cool. I think they were pretty happy with them, huh?

Next for the band– heading back into the studio soon to record their new album. I hope I will be invited to play groupie take pictures while they are there, even just so I can listen to the new songs again! You guys are the best. Only good things for you!

    The Turn (our latest photoshoot)

    Img_4640ik

This is going to be a hard post. Why? Cause there are so many outstanding pictures. And because there is so much to say about these guys, that’s its hard to know where to start.

Immediate business first: Since things in the band have been changing since the Webster Hall show (3 original members are no longer members), it was time for a new shoot. I mentioned before that I found this AWESOME new location behind the Long Island Childrens Museum with Timmy. I thought it would be perfect for the band. Ended up…it was!! Loved it there- perfect urban decay with some great color and texture thrown in for good measure. Don’t worry about the original three guys- it was all amicable and they are still helping eachother out when needed. They were just moving in different directions and it was time for a change. So The Turn is still Brian and Pat, and they are kicking a** as usual! Writing all kinds of new songs and performing every chance they get.

It seems that besides being the "official" Turn photographer, I have become one of their biggest fans. (ok, stalker, but that’s just semantics, right?- Just kidding. Sorta.) I try to catch them playing every opportunity I get and keep dragging friends along for the ride. I don’t think my friends have minded so far…they have all become fans as well! They can seriously play and sing. They amaze me with their talent. Everytime I have the CD on in the car (which is pretty much always) and someone new hears it, they have consistently said that they thought it was the radio. If you haven’t already, please check out their myspace page and hear a little Turn music. It’s at http://www.myspace.com/RockTheTurn.

Besides the fact that I love their music- I love them. These are great guys with huge hearts. These "boys" always make me feel like I’m doing a great job for them. I don’t know at exactly what point we became friends instead of me just being their photographer, but we are friends, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. And I have now been dubbed ‘the turn mommy’. Can’t help it- just looking out for them as much as I can! I want to be taking their photos on the BIG stages as soon as possible and whatever I can do to get them there, I will!

We took about 430+ pictures during this shoot! Probably would have kept going too if we hadn’t run out of light completely. And the editing process was so fun for me- got to play with some finishes I don’t really get to use much on my regular shoots (the intense colors and acid washes generally don’t look good on babies, weddings, little kids, etc) but they rocked on the band shots. I had a great time Brian & Pat!! Hope you love them. I can only fit so many on here (way less room on the blog than the # of favorites I have), so the rest are in an album on the left. B- steal away!

And lastly a few "personal" pix for B and ogy…

    Img_4849b Img_4851b

And my personal favorite. Not really, but it was too funny not to post.
