a busy, busy day
Crazy day today. Boys to church in the morning with John, Timmy went on some errands with me. Down to the beach to do the last cleanup of the year since they close down today until next summer (waaaa!). Over to their cousin’s birthday party and then to their house for a birthday dinner. In the meantime, I had a photoshoot down at the beach for my friend Marianne. And one of my all time favorite movies was on today (although no time to watch it) 25th Hour with Edward Norton. Oh, I have SUCH a huge crush on him. Now gotta start preparations for tommorrow- back to school.
Here are a few shots from today at the beach playground. Boys were wearing their new shirts from Aunt Maureen. Just love those bright colors!

the horse
For their First Communion, Grandpa Ken bought the big boys shares in a racehorse, and here she is! Her name is Wheel Charmer and she is going to be racing at Belmont this fall. We finally got to meet her this weekend over at the stables at Belmont where she is currently living and training. Let me just say that 1. even though Belmont is in the middle of Queens (those of you who know me, know how I LOVE Queens-sarcasm) you would never know it. It’s like a whole nother world back there. There a chickens and roosters cock-a-doodle-dooing and walking around with baby chicks. Crazy. and 2. the horses are so cool. A little scary and intimidating but so cool. Grandpa had the good forsight to bring some carrots along as a little ‘nice to meet you, here’s a snack’ treat. It worked well. Wheelie wasn’t in her stall when we arrived so we walked around the stable a little, saw the other horses, met her trainer briefly, and checked out the chickens. We even saw a runaway horse gallop by. Then Wheelie came back from her walk and got a little rinse off and went back to her stall. We were informed by her groom (Isobelle) that she is agressive and bites so we were a little wary at first. But the boys were very brave and jumped right into feeding her carrots and petting her face and neck. She didn’t bite and seemed interested or at least tollerant of them. No biting or agressiveness at all. She was sweet and pretty. Very muscular too.
We are looking forward to seeing her in her first race in October (hopefully). The boys want her to win at least one race just so we can go into the winners circle with her. It would be nice. We’ll see. We are all looking forward to visiting her again soon.

a week without
a blog entry. Sorry, been busy. Tuesday was my birthday. It was also September 11th. And Timmy’s first day of school. (Ok, so it hasn’t really been a week since posting since I did blog about Timmy’s first day, but almost). I hate my birthday. It sucks. Not the getting older part- it’s better than the alternative, but the fact that September 11th is THE SADDEST day ever. And as much as I try to avoid it, I always end up watching some recaps from 2001 and crying my eyes out over the course of the day. I can’t help but watch it. I feel like I need to so I don’t forget. Not a pleasant way to spend your birthday. I used to love my birthday. Center of attention and all that. But now, not at all. Besides, being a mommy, it’s really just another day. Everyone needs to get up, dressed, fed, taken care of. Laundry is still waiting, floors still need vacuming and sweeping. Just another day. Oh well. I did get a very nice bouquet of flowers (pink roses, my favorite) from my sweet husband and he picked out an awesome Coach bag for me all by himself! And, the best part, I LOVE IT. He is doing well.
Thanks to all my friends who called or sent b’day cards. I didn’t answer the phone much. It’s hard to explain why you are sad on your birthday. But, there it is and now you know.
Wednesday my mom and I went into NYC to see A Chorus Line on Broadway. So much fun! We were originally going to go back in January, but I got the flu (thankfully, not the stomach kind, but I was still sooooo sick) so there was no way I couldv’e gone. I ended up giving the tickets to a friend of mine who was so kind to me while I was sick- she picked up and dropped off the boys at school almost every day for 2weeks while I was dying. She has two daughters who are very talented singers and go to Broadway often. So at least someone got good use out of them. Anyway, I got an offer for reduced price tickets and amazing seats (row 7 orchestra, center) so we decided (after a bit of convincing on my part) to go on the first night of Rosh Hashana. Mainly because I knew it would be a late night and I didn’t have to get the boys ready for school early the next day cause they were off for the holiday. The show was so great (they didn’t change a thing from the original version which I must have seen with my grandpa at least 6 times. And you know my theory on change….change is bad. we fear change.) and just like I remembered, except it seemed smaller. Smaller theatre, smaller stage, just smaller. I guess thats a part of the whole growing up/changing perspective thingy. Then mom and I went over to Ruby Foo’s (asian fusion) for dinner at 10:30pm. We had such a great mother/daughter date. And lots of hand sanitizer. You know, for the train/subway. We are going to try to do that more often. Timmy had his first day of his gym class on Friday. Timmy is in that class with his buddy Jack and they spent the whole time running around after eachother. Its so funny that every time it’s circle time (either at school or another class) and there is singing or participating, he just WILL. NOT. DO. IT. He will just sit there and not sing, clap, jump, or anything else they are asking him to do. But for other non-circle-activities, he’s all in. Loves the art project, or the races, or the story time an fully participates in that part. But a big no to the singing or following singing directions. Just weird.
The big boys had another soccer game today (game 2) and their team won 5-4. Jack was goalie in the 1st half (let up 4 goals, but did have at least 8 good saves). Patrick was definitely not on his game today. He didn’t play hard (maybe he used up all his hustle last week?) or run a lot. I have to reconsider that later bedtime I guess.

Timmy’s first day of school
He started today and will be going 2 days a week for 2.5hrs. Separation. It’s the big time baby! Today was just an hour and the mom’s stayed in the building just in case. He was SO excited to go to "timmy’s school" today and was asking for his backpack since he woke up this morning. After dropping the big boys at school, we went over to his school- all, of course, after the required pictures were taken. His teacher told us at orientation that she didn’t want the moms to come into the room, so I basically gave him a quick kiss and sent him off into the room. He did great!!!! No crying for the hour he was in there. He was so happy to see me after class (and I was so happy to see him, and to see him smiling) and I got a brief rundown in the car as to what he did in class. At least I have one kid who tells me something that happens at school!
-played with "orange playdough at the table and made a boat."
-Miss Diane read a story called "Let’s Go Shopping"
-had a goldfish snack
-played with toys (put the baby to sleep)
-told me his classmates names (there are only 4 kids in the class- it’s so nice)
-made a picture with crayons and stickers
– sang the goodbye song with Miss Diane
-"sang the goodbye song and then the mommies came back". " you came back, mommy!"
When I asked him if he had fun he said "I like it school!" And he wants to go back again. Can’t wait til next week. I just hope it goes as well then. Good job, Timmy! He’s so big, huh?

I pop it?
This is a good one. We were at the beach early in the summer and found a ladybug (by the way, does anyone out there know why there are often ladybugs on the beach? It seems like such an odd place for them to hang out) in the sand. I put it on my hand and it was crawling around. I showed it to Timmy and he asked "I pop it?" So I asked "Pop it?" cause I wasn’t sure what he meant. Well, he meant exactly what he said– and popped the poor thing by stabbing it with his chubby little finger. All the while I’m yelling "noooooo, don’t pop it" but it was too late.
So while Timmy likes the IDEA of ladybugs, he dosen’t really like the actual ladybug. He asks to put it on his hand and as soon as I get it on there he screams and flings it across the room. It’s pretty funny, although the ladybug probably disagrees. This is one we found in the house the other day which met the flinging demise as well. At least he didn’t pop it.
