the hus family: a first birthday party

On Saturday afternoon I was busy taking pictures for the Hus family in NYC for their little daughter’s first birthday. It was a great party (everyone looked like they were having a fantastic time from my view behind the lens) and I had a great time taking pictures. Everyone was so nice and all the little ones were super cute.

The party was in their building and it was a beautiful building! They have a fully decked out playroom for kids. It looked better than gymboree in there! Toys, slides, padded everything. It was awesome. Wish I had that in my house.

To get the babies attention I would blow raspberries while trying to take their picture. By the end of my time there, the birthday girl was making the same noise. Sorry, J! But at least I did get her attention! Img_1981sl Img_1984sc Img_1997x Img_2020x Img_2024sc Img_2043x Img_2090x Img_2175x Img_2265x Img_2302x Img_2373cbw

Sunday’s shoot: the blo family mini session

Had my very last Sunday shoot for the year with a very nice family who came to me as a friend of a previous client. It ended up being a very abbreviated session (I was not done yet) as the power went out due to the wind/rain. And due to the wind/rain, there was not enough natural light to proceed. Especially since these kids were so fast and so, so busy- they would have been nothing but big blurs without the help of a little light. I waited for a bit before leaving just in case it did come back on, chatting with the mom about summer camp, but no luck so we had to wrap it up early. Got some cute ones in though before the power went though. Just not a lot of them. I think this family might do a little better outside when the weather gets better- more room to run and be. Oh, and that hair! That gorgeous perfect color of deep red hair. Would love to see that in the sunlight. Img_4133s2f Img_4172slf Img_4145x Img_4196slf Img_4236slf Img_4246cbwf Img_4294sf

    2007 Christmas Cards- round one

I figured it would be okay to post the first round of Christmas Cards today. These are the ones I know have been sent out from my clients, and received (either cause I got one or if they told me they are all sent). All the names are xxx’d out so no identifying information is out there on the web. Enjoy! I had such a fun time making all of these. The rest will be posted soon- as I get more from the mailman or on Christmas eve. NYC & the tree

The boys had a half day of school yesterday and John took the day off so we headed into NYC to go on our annual trip to the crowd-laden tree area and Times Square. Do you remember when Times Square was really Times Squaller? It was all peepshows (and worse) and drug laden and homeless and drunk and scary. It ‘s so NICE now. All pretty and disney and bright. I really like it much better this way.

Anyway, we went in with John’s parents this year, which was a lot of fun for everyone. Took the train in (there was no way I was driving in during the height of the season) which is always a big hit with the boys. Img_3989sl Img_3991sl Img_3997sl Img_3999sl Img_4005sl Took the subway (with one extremely disgustingly smelly elevator) to Times Square and walked over to the Toys R US. Told the boys we were not buying, just looking, but if they saw something I would get it for them LATER for Christmas. But they still had nervous breakdowns over some Lego Star Wars stuff. Kinda put a damper on the rest of the day cause they were all pouty and pissy after that. Thankfully, Timmy was so ready for a nap and fell right asleep in the stroller for the walk uptown. At least someone was happy. Sleeping, but happy.

We walked up from Times Square to Rockefeller Center. Img_4011sl Stopped on the way for a pretzel Img_4012sl Img_4014sl Img_4015sl Img_4016sl and to look at some cool window displays Img_4024sl and some big decorations. Img_4017sl Img_4021sl Saw the display of the 1 million pennies that had been collected by NYC school kids to donate to charity. Img_4025sl It was pretty cool looking. We ran in to Sharper Image to look around and warm up. Before going to the tree, we stopped in at St. Patrick’s Cathedral where the big boys chased pigeons, lit candles, and Timmy woke up from his nap.  Img_4032sl Img_4036c Img_4037sl Img_4039sl Img_4042sl Img_4041sl Walked over to the actual tree which I had heard from a number of people was really, really pretty this year (it was).  Then I had a problem: It used to be that you could stand right in the middle in front of the reflecting pools and take your own pictures there- which was the best spot. They had even built a little platform in past years and people would just line up on their own and take their pictures. Now they have somekind of huge photography racket and it really PISSED me off. They have that prime area all cordened off and you must get your picture taken by NBC if you want one in that area. Of course, the picture taking is free, but the prints start at around $15 for one picture. What a fre
aking rip off! So now you have to take your picture off to the side of the tree, not in the middle with all the angels along side. It’s pretty disgusting what they can make money off of. But I cheated- I sent John and the boys in there and took my own pictures while the "pro" photographer was taking his. Timmy was NOT happy having his picture taken by this guy and he pitched a fit which lasted into my pictures. Oh well. Overphotographed syndrome. Img_4045sl Img_4051sl Img_4053sl Img_4057sl Img_4061sl Img_4062sl Img_4064sl

After the tree we walked back thru the BIG crowds over to Times Square and went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for dinner. The wait wasn’t terrible since it was so early (not even 5pm) but by the time we got seated and started eating it was around 5:30pm. So it worked out really well. Timmy even told me he had to go potty (he never tells me, I just take him) and pooped in the city in the toilet! One of the highlights of the day.

All in all, it was a good day. The boys perked up after dinner and a little at the tree. Timmy was in a great mood at dinner and was even standing up in the booth dancing a bunch. He was so good about staying in the stroller much of the day. So tired today, but back into NYC for me as I have a photoshoot there this afternoon. Look for pictures on that coming soon.

    snow!

Just a little, and really more ice pellets than actual snow. But that all means nothing to a 2.5 year old! So into the snow we went with his new boots, "funny" hat, hand me down waterproof coat, and Diego mittens. He had a great time for about 20 minutes until his hands got freezing cold and all wet. I think the dressing and undressing took longer than the actual outdoor playtime. But it was all worth it!Img_3956sl Img_3962sl Img_3968sl Img_3970sl Img_3963sl Img_3966sl

    "We have snowball fight"? Img_3977sl Img_3978sl Img_3979sl Img_3981sl Img_3983sl

All pictures taken with my "old" newly repaired camera. I was pleasantly surprised on how they turned out. So now I can relax myself a little bit on the three upcoming shoots. One user error on my part- forgot to check the settings and I had my ISO set way high (like 1800) so I ended up with some blown spots on his cheeks and lots and lots of grain. A quick trip thru Noisewear got rid of the grain, but no easy fixes on the hot spots.

And no word yet from Canon on the broken 30D. Aaarrghhhhhh! Did I mention that it’s only 2 months old? And broken?
